2011 ALBUMS OF THE YEAR

no particular order, just things i liked, and i hope you did too…

* Saul Williams – Volcanic Sunlight
After a long wait, Saul came back with an album, not as a “slam poet” or “rapper” but as Saul the musician. deep as always but yet vary dance-able and FUN album, great combo, high score!

* Title Fight – Shed

Just a great hardcore album. not too fancy, not over produced, not too “classic hardcore” and not too “new shit”, they got it just right

* Doomtree – No Kings

Thank god, They got it right! this is the best “crew” record I’ve heard in a vary long while. the whole Doomtree collective (P.O.S, Dessa, Mike Mictlan, Cecil Otter, Sims, Paper Tiger, Lazerbeak, which i would recommend each one of them as an individual) sounding balanced in the same state of mind, sounding as one with many voices. PROPER JOB DONE!

* The Copyrights – North Sentinel Island

POPUNK! glorious anthem filled singalong-able everything popunk, and i guess that could be a negative critique, BUT IT ISN’T!

* Sick Of It All – Nonstop

old songs, new recordings, if you like SOIA through the years you’ll love this, if you hate NYHC or just like their old records, you’ll hate this. All i have to say is that they took some unlistenable tracks like “rat pack” and made them proper!

* Graham Fitkin – Cello Concerto

not an album, but i heard the premier of this in London, and it is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard.

* Lupe Fiasco – Lasers

Lupe has gone pop! my oh my… YES he did, BUT his lyrics has got 10 times better and on a tight production his message is getting across 100 times better!

* NAS & Damian Marley – Distant Relatives

this is fun, that’s it, its a fun album by 2 great artists.

* Sole – nuclear winter vol. 2/strong>

2nd volume of sole’s situationist “rap journalism” re-make album, alot of crappy (and some vary good) hip hop and pop hits, turned into great anarchist rap commentary on “the late great american empire” 2011.

just look what he did with lupe’s song…

so…
what did i miss this year? comment your albums, let the (not so many) people who follow this blog know!

p.s. 95% chance that the album of the year 2012 is already known… the new Propagandhi album coming this year should be golden as are all their other albums… and the Bouncing Souls i think are due to drop an album too, shouldn’t be too bad either…
